We know you will join us in a very warm welcome to our two new Council members - Dr Barbara Hannon and Tim James.
Barbara commenced meditating over 30 years ago, when as a young doctor, she witnessed the suffering of people with spinal cord injuries, and was looking at ways to cope both professionally and personally. Looking to incorporate meditation into her work environment, she connected with Craig Hassed at Monash University, before tutoring medical students with mindfulness techniques as part of his ESSENCE program.
Over the years since, she has participated in many voluntary activities, including coordinating sessions for health professionals as well as the public through various courses and peer led groups. The influence of meditation practice has been integral to her work as a rehabilitation physician.
Experiencing that sustaining a practice of reflection goes a long way in intense times, her daily practice includes: meditating in solitude, including spending time in nature to recharge and refresh, as well as connecting with like-minded individuals and communities.
